Hello!

I’m Tammy Ackerman, the real person behind Mill Pond Creative. Mill Pond Creative is a product of the 2020 pandemic. While wrestling with the events of that year’s many tragedies, my partner, Josh, and I found respite in a little mill pond close to home where we’d finish the day if warm enough, with a dip in the icy water and a sit by the edge of the pond. When I needed to come up with a name for my new business, Josh suggested this name and it was an instant winner. Here’s hoping 2021 and beyond are much brighter.

My background is varied but always creative and entrepreneurial. After a stint in the corporate world, I realized being my own boss is much more fun. Since 2000, I started two design businesses, co-founded and ran an arts nonprofit, and launched another redevelopment nonprofit where I’m currently the president.

My nonprofit experience benefitted from my design skills to develop the nonprofit’s brand and communications–and I also launched a public art program, a cultural coalition, a maker incubator, curated exhibitions, planned community events, raised lots of money, and wrote plenty of successful grants!

In 2020, I decided it was time to hand off the organization and pursue a new path. Falling back on my extensive experience, I’ve begun (again) working as an independent designer and creative director.

In my new life post-nonprofit, I’m also rediscovering my love for ceramics. I’ve set up Mill Pond Ceramics where I’ll be posting one-off and misfit pots to giveaway and hopefully some for sale soon. Visit Mill Pond Ceramics on Instagram or take a peek at what’s available in my shop.
